On 29 April 2025, the GIET Equity Team at The Education University of Hong Kong invited Prof. Sungsup Ra, the former Deputy Director General at Asian Development Bank (ADB), to host the second session of the Learning Innovations and Emerging Technologies Masterclass Series, entitled “Education and Skills Development in the Age of Disruption: Challenges and Opportunities of Emerging Technologies.” Prof. Ra is currently a visiting professor at KDI School of Public Policy and Management in South Korea and a visiting scholar at Stanford Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center.
The Masterclass contains four topics, namely 1) The Double Burden of Education and Skills Development; 2) Risks of Widening Inequalities; 3) Opportunities for Leapfrogging through Emerging Technologies, and 4) Reimagining a New Path. The session introduced an interdisciplinary approach to analysing education and skill development in global contexts where climate change, post-pandemic impact, computerisation and rising life expectancy interplay. His rich field experiences in ADB and generous sharing of various project implementation cases prompted dynamic discussions among the audience.
