GIET Equity Team Delegation Visits Shanghai Jiao Tong University

From 23 to 26 September, Prof. Lim Cher Ping, Co-Director of Global Institute for Emerging Technologies, led a delegation to Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). The delegation also included key project members, Dr. ZHU Jinxin and Dr. Ba Shen, Assistant Professors from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I). This visit was supported by the joint project between EdUHK and SJTU titled “University Teacher AI Competency Model and Professional Learning System for EdUHK and Beyond”, led by Prof. Lim Cher Ping and Prof. Yan Zi, Head of C&I. This visit creates opportunities for the project teams from both universities to work collaboratively across the different phases of the project and strengthen strategic partnerships.

On 24 September, the EdUHK delegation team visited the Center for Teaching and Learning Development (CTLD) at SJTU. Dr. Liang Zhumei from CTLD shared SJTU’s practices in integrating AI and Generative AI across disciplines under the “AI+ Education and Teaching Action Plan.” This discussion advances the ongoing refinement of the proposed GenAI competency framework and facilitates future collaboration on collective case studies, both of which are expected deliverables of the EdUHK-SJTU collaborative project.

On 25 September, Prof. Chiang Feng-Kuang, Vice Dean of the School of Education (SOE), and Prof. Kong Linghe, Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professorship and Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SJTU, co-chaired the project meeting, along with other key faculty members from the Center for Future Education of SOE. During the meeting, the EdUHK delegation presented key milestones of the project on behalf of the EdUHK-based project team. Teams at both universities then collaboratively mapped the next step as building a learning platform for university teachers based on the proposed competency framework and self-assessment tool.

This academic visit features constructive exchanges and fruitful discussions, laying a strong foundation for a sustainable reciprocal partnership between the two universities. Echoing with its mission to reconceptualise the role of university teachers, the EdUHK-SJTU project will continuously work on enhancing AI- and GenAI-enabled teaching, teacher professional development at the higher education level, and inclusive and equitable quality education.
